A leading B2B distribution and omnichannel retail business sought to improve finance operations across their landscape. Manual account coding for invoices and time-intensive increased effort and made it harder to identify inconsistencies, forecast bias and emerging risks.

The client partnered with HCLTech to enable account coding in Oracle Payables and IPM Insights in Oracle Fusion Cloud EPM Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS). The initiative reduced manual processing effort and helped finance users identify trends and anomalies more quickly.

The Challenge

Manual coding and analysis increased effort and limited financial visibility

Complex retail and distribution operations required consistent invoice coding and timely financial insights. Growing data volumes increased the workload for finance teams, while differences in user experience affected the consistency of account combinations.

The Challenge

Key challenges included:

  • Time-intensive manual account coding for invoices without purchase orders (non-PO invoices)
  • Inconsistent account combinations due to variations in user experience
  • Manual review of FCCS data to identify trends, anomalies and forecast bias
  • Limited access to advanced financial insights without dedicated data science or machine learning expertise

The Objective

Simplify finance workflows and improve access to actionable insights

The goal was to reduce routine processing effort and help finance users identify trends and risks more efficiently through Oracle AI capabilities.

The Objective

Key objectives included:

  • Reduce manual invoice coding and improve account coding consistency
  • Accelerate the identification of financial trends, anomalies and forecast bias
  • Support a faster, more confident financial close
  • Make advanced analytical capabilities accessible without relying on dedicated data science or machine learning teams
Streamlining invoice processing and financial analysis with Oracle AI

The Solution

Enabling Oracle AI capabilities for invoice coding and financial analysis

HCLTech enabled AI-assisted account coding in Oracle Payables and IPM Insights in FCCS, applying Oracle capabilities to routine processing and financial analysis.

The Solution

The solution included the following capabilities:

  • Machine learning based account coding for non-PO invoices, using historical coding data to predict account combinations for users to review or override
  • A feedback mechanism that uses corrections to account combinations to help improve future predictions
  • IPM Insights to identify financial trends, anomalies and forecast bias, helping users focus their analysis on areas that require attention
  • Access to Oracle AI capabilities within finance workflows, reducing reliance on dedicated data science or machine learning expertise

The Impact

Less manual processing and faster access to financial insights

AI-assisted account coding reduced routine keystrokes and coding effort, while IPM Insights improved visibility into trends and risks. Reported benefits included:

The Impact
  • Fewer manual keystrokes and less account coding effort, helping save invoice processing time and cost
  • Support for a faster, more confident financial close through IPM Insights
  • Improved visibility into forecast bias, anomalies and financial risks
  • Quicker identification of financial trends without extensive manual analysis
  • AI-driven financial insights accessible without dedicated data science or machine learning expertise

The engagement also created scope to extend these capabilities to other Oracle EPM and ERP modules.
